Our Boats

We own two cruisers and a cruiser-racer. In each boat’s log book, we maintain detailed, easy-to-use operating checklists that support crews, especially infrequent users, in operating boats safely. These include pre-departure, engine starting, under-way, refueling and boat closeout checklists. Also on board and online is our internally developed Boat Information Book (BIB), an operator manual specifically tailored to each of our boats.

Cruiser Racer

Vivace’s 2017 Governor’s Cup class victory speaks for itself. Every experienced sailor who takes the helm comments on the boat’s delightful handling. The Express 30 cruiser-racer (Canadian build) was reviewed some years back in Canadian Yachting magazine.  Some excerpts:

The Express 30 was designed by Steve Killing as a “30-foot boat that would have performance, comfort and grace”. Not unexpectedly, the Express 30 has a keen emphasis on performance, and its uncluttered interior accented with the warmth of oiled teak does indeed provide a clean, functional air of comfort and grace.

For the owner who wishes to race in reasonable comfort, or who wishes to at least reserve the option of an occasional cruise, the Express 30 provides a sufficiently sophisticated racer-cruiser to be intriguing and challenging. It also meets the requirement that a 30-foot yacht should provide enough space and amenities for several adults to take at least short trips in a civilized fashion.

Catalina Cruisers

Our two Catalinas are pure cruisers, well equipped for weekend and longer coastal cruising. Both have completed the DelMarVa circumnavigation.

Catalina 34s were favorably reviewed by Practical Sailor magazine.  Some excerpts:

The Catalina 34 is a successful, all-around design from a hugely successful company.

The 34s are wholesome coastal cruising boats, also suitable for island-hopping expeditions.

According to our owner survey, the interior is the most praised aspect of the 34 . . . .

The second most highly praised feature is performance . . . .

In general, satisfaction with the Catalina 34 rates very high. We suspect this is due in large part to the great support that owners get through the Catalina 34 International Association, Catalina, and Catalina Direct, an independent provider of upgrades and parts for older boats
